Son el fruto de la colaboraci\u00f3n entre las provincias de Corrientes y Chaco para la preservaci\u00f3n de la especie: Mbarete, la madre, hab\u00eda sido llevada desde el Parque Nacional Iber\u00e1 (Corrientes) al Parque Nacional El Impenetrable (Chaco) para reproducirse con un macho silvestre, Qaramta.<\/p>\n
D\u00edas atr\u00e1s se confirm\u00f3 que, como resultado de la junta de Mbarete y Qaramta, nacieron dos cachorros en un gran corral en el PN El Impenetrable. Est\u00e1 previsto que, pr\u00f3ximamente, Mbarete sea trasladada con sus cachorros al PN Iber\u00e1, de donde ella proviene, para ser liberados juntos en esa \u00e1rea protegida.<\/p>\n
Estos tres individuos \u2014Mbarete y sus cachorros\u2014 aumentar\u00e1n la incipiente poblaci\u00f3n de yaguaret\u00e9s que crece en los Esteros del Iber\u00e1, a la cual los dos peque\u00f1os introducir\u00e1n diversidad gen\u00e9tica aportada por su padre chaque\u00f1o, Qaramta.<\/p>\n
Este acontecimiento demuestra que las acciones de colaboraci\u00f3n entre parques nacionales y gobiernos provinciales en el manejo de fauna nativa son clave para combatir la extinci\u00f3n de especies amenazadas.<\/p>\n

TWO NEW JAGUARS ARE BORN IN EL IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK, CHACO, ARGENTINA<\/p>\n
Their birth is the result of the pioneering collaboration between government institutions and conservation organizations with the goal of preserving this keystone species. Months earlier, Mbarete, the mother, was taken from Iber\u00e1 National Park (Corrientes Province) to El Impenetrable National Park (Chaco Province) to breed with a wild male, Qaramta.<\/p>\n
A few weeks ago, our teams confirmed the birth of two cubs in a large pre-release enclosure in El Impenetrable NP. They are the offspring of Qaramta and Mbarete.<\/p>\n
The next step is to take Mbarete and her cubs to Iber\u00e1 NP, where Mbarete was born and where the three of them are expected to be released soon.<\/p>\n
The three jaguars \u2014Mbarete and her cubs\u2014 will augment the nascent jaguar population that has been growing in Iber\u00e1 since the first jaguar was released in January 2021; there are now 12 in the Park. Moreover, the two new cubs’ Chacoan blood will increase genetic diversity in Iber\u00e1’s founding population.<\/p>\n
The birth of these two cubs highlights the important role that national parks, government institutions, and conservation organizations can play when they work together to prevent, and even reverse, the extinction of endangered species \u2014 like the jaguar.<\/p>\n
